Cookbook Cover Photo Shoot
Healthy Food Advocate Danielle Walker
Best Selling Author of
Against All Grain Cookbook Series

Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain Cookbooks are a staple in any gut-healthy kitchen. After much success with her first cookbook inspired by her own battle with auto-immune disease, Against All Grain, my sister and I were so excited to photograph Danielle’s second book Meals Made Simple.

Cookbook Shoots are not like ordinary commercial, lifestyle, or portrait shoots, a ton goes into the planning and timing of everything. The biggest challenge? Finding a location with beautiful natural light that fits the vibe of our author! Phew! Once we have our space, we are able to set a date and start thinking about wardrobe and sketch out a storyboard of scenes. We squeezed a lot into this fabulous day shoot, check out our different scenes:

  1. Casual Lifestyle Shot of Danielle in the kitchen with a summer salad

  2. Summer Morning Retreat styled in light neutrals

  3. Danielle having fun prepping her gluten-free cake recipe

  4. Danielle all dolled up and ready to entertain

  5. Danielle at the sink washing her favorite fresh greens

  6. Lifestyle images of Danielle working on her laptop in the kitchen

  7. Danielle at home assembling one of her favorite recipes in her new book

  8. Lifestyle headshots and personal images for branding

  9. Danielle cozy with coffee and her laptop

  10. Danielle eating fresh strawberries out of a strainer

  11. Danielle prepping her delicious rosemary chicken recipe

The second biggest challenge is selecting foods that will photograph well and sometimes we have to use tricks to keep a dish looking fresh (think spraying oil to keep it looking fresh!). The styling was easy, we all love each other’s style so we just played around until we had the palette and preppy casual vibe we were going for. My sister kept hair and makeup natural and we played around with messy buns, smooth waves, and vibrant curls to get a different look for each scene. We selected clothing from Anthropologie, Madewell, Saks 5th Avenue, Free People, Revolve, and Joy Dravecky Jewelry.
